EDINA ANNUAL REPORT for the Academic Year 2008/2009

EDINA is a constituent part of the University of Edinburgh. It is a 'planning unit' within the Information Services of the University, with accountability to University Court and reporting via the Vice Principal for Knowledge Management.
JISC (through HEFCE) meets a major part of the funding of EDINA, so that it can offer services to the JISC (UK academic) community as a whole. As part of the Funding Agreement that HEFCE has with the University, EDINA is required to have a Management Board, to help articulate the interests of the JISC community, and to act as one communication mechanism between JISC and EDINA.
Role
- To support and advise the management of EDINA
- To oversee the strategic direction and operation of EDINA
Responsibilities
- To oversee the progress of EDINA, receiving reports on its performance in meeting its obligations under the Funding Agreement and Service Level Agreement (SLA)
- To consider and approve EDINA's business plans (three-year rolling strategy, operational plans, and budget submissions), as required by the Funding Agreement
- To receive and consider any representations that JISC might make under the terms of the Funding Agreement
- To oversee and support EDINA in its promotion to the wider community
Membership
During 2008/2009, Professor Mike Tedd retired from the role as Chair of the Board; and Charles Oppenheim, Professor of Information Science, Loughborough University accepted the Chair in his place.

- Professor Jeff Haywood, Vice Principal for Knowledge Management, University of Edinburgh
- Norman Wiseman, Head of Services and Outreach, JISC
- Fiona Bowtell, Leaning and Teaching Librarian (MCT), Open University (representing the JIBS User Group
- Peter Burnhill, Director of EDINA
Other members of JISC and EDINA attend Board meetings as advisors.
Three meetings were held during 2008/2009: in October 2008, March 2009 and July 2009.
