User access information is displayed below. If you are unsure how you should be accessing a service please ask your Library Helpdesk or EDINA Site-representative.
- The UK Access Management Federation for Education and Research enables secure access to external services using the same username and password as for local services at your institution.
- Direct Access allows you to connect directly to the service without a username and password, because your PC's unique address (its IP number) is recognised by the service as belonging to an authorised range of addresses. This facility is not available at every institution, so you should only choose Direct Access when locally recommended to do so. Direct access provides less useful management information, and will not allow you to make use of user profiling services.
- Athens access management is no longer used for the majority of EDINA services. Your institution may however use OpenAthens, the Athens to UK federation gateway service provided by Eduserv. Please ask your librarian or EDINA Site Representative for advice.
- There are features such as MyGoGeo and databases accessed by Advanced Search which require authentication.
- Contact details are optional for GeoDoc.
- JISC MediaHub allows free access to searching and browsing. However, only users affiliated with subscribing institutions may download media.
