Subscribing to Digimap

All Digimap subscriptions are managed by JISC Collections. You can read more information about subscription pricing and licensing in the JISC Collections online catalogue by searching for the appropriate Digimap Collection here:

In June 2010, JISC Collections changed their subscription process. If your institution wishes to take a subscription to Digimap, please contact the JISC Collections subscriptions helpdesk on help@jisc-collections.ac.uk or 0203 006 6088.

What to do next

Once you have completed the online subscription purchase process using the JISC Collections website, EDINA will send you by email some additional security forms. It is important that you complete and return these to EDINA. Access to the service will not be available until the forms are returned. Two of these forms can be found from the links below:

If, once registered, the contact details at your institution change, the following form is available. Please send it to EDINA:

It is strongly recommended that institutions send members of their staff on the Digimap training courses, organised by EDINA, in order to ensure that the service is properly supported within the institution, thereby ensuring that the institution receives good value from their subscription. When available, a schedule of training courses will be advertised on the EDINA website (http://edina.ac.uk/events/).

Further Information

The following sections contain information that will be useful for those considering subscribing to a Digimap Collection. Please contact us about FREE TRIAL ACCESS to any of the Digimap services.

Need help in securing a subscription?

EDINA has encountered many instances of small departments or research groups wanting a subscription to a Digimap Collection, but finding it difficult to finance without the assistance of other departments or centralised budgets. The following document may help you to obtain funding from other sources, and provide a strong case for the multi-disciplinary advantages of a subscription.

Institutional Responsibilities

Since the data available through all Digimap Collections are valuable in both academic and commercial circles, it is important that subscribing institutions understand their responsibilities with regard to data security and ensuring appropriate use of the data. The following document provides further details of the responsibilities each institution undertakes on subscribing:

Infrastructural Responsibilities

The following document provides advice and guidance on the infrastructural issues which might arise in making the most of a subscription to any Digimap Collection. Issues such as the availability of appropriate software, access management issues, and networked storage space for data are covered here.

Supporting Digimap Collections

High quality end user support has been identified as a key priority in the successful uptake of any Digimap Collection. To this end, EDINA offers the following document to assist institutions in setting up local support structures to ensure that greatest benefit is gained from the subscription.
