The DiGMapGB - 625 data is 1:625,000 scale digital geological mapping. The data has two layers, Bedrock geology and superficial deposits. The data covers all of Scotland, England and Wales onshore areas. The data is available in the Geology maps service as the 100 x 100 km view with generalised Ordnance Survey Strategi® data as a backdrop. It is also available to download in ESRI Shapefile and MapInfo MID /MIF formats as a single tile covering the UK.
The data comprises primarily polygons (or areas) and lines. Each polygon is attributed with information based on the name (often lithostratigraphical) of the unit and its lithology or composition. These polygons are arranged in two themes: bedrock geology ('solid') and superficial deposits ('drift' or Quaternary). There are no linear features in this dataset.
The DiGMapGB - 625 data has been created from the four 1:625 000 scale United Kingdom Geological Maps (Bedrock Geology UK north, Bedrock Geology UK south, Quaternary UK north and Quaternary UK south).
