Marine Digimap Products Available

Background

The following SeaZone products are available through Digimap. This page provides access to further information about each of the products. More extensive information about the data and its use is available to registered users within the Digimap service.

SeaZone Hydrospatial Data

SeaZone Hydrospatial data is a vector dataset available in ArcGIS and MapInfo formats. It contains a great array of different features including bathymetry, ship wrecks, economical information, ecological data, structures and obstructions, and many more. The dataset was first released in 2005 and has been growing in content and detail ever since.

The data is split into 7 Topic Layers, each of which are broken down further into Themes, which in turn contain Feature Types. For more information see the following page: Hydrospatial data

SeaZone Charted Raster Data

SeaZone Charted Raster is based on scanned and geocoded images of the well known Admiralty Chart series and is available for immediate use in Geographic Information Systems, without the need for additional software, add-ons or plug-ins.

SeaZone Charted Raster data provides ideal backdrop mapping for a variety of uses. The data can be combined with your own or Ordnance Survey datasets to present your information effectively. For more information see the following page: Charted Raster data

Data Formats

The Hydrospatial data comes in ESRI Shapefile and MapInfo TAB formats and so is ready to load directly into a GIS. Style and font files are available from the help to allow the data to be displayed properly. The Charted Raster Data is available as GeoTIFF format, these TIFF images can be viewed in graphics software and in GIS software, projection information is provided for MapInfo but is not needed for ArcGIS.

EDINA provides support in the use of SeaZone data for key GIS software in use by the HE community, but does not recommend any particular software packages. You can find details of your Digimap Site Representative on the EDINA web site. They will be able to put you in touch with your institution's experts.

IMPORTANT:Each user must read the Terms of Use for the Digimap service when they register. These, and the Frequently Asked Questions on the Sub-Licence Agreement are available on the EDINA web site, and can be viewed from within the service. These specify what you can and cannot do with the data. If you are in any doubt as to the terms of use for Digimap, please do not hesitate to contact EDINA with your query.
