Asimov's Guide To Shakespeare: Macbeth Chapter The Asimov chapter consists of introductory paragraphs followed by a number of sections each titled for a particular quote. In the XML, the play reference of this quote and the title of the section are included as attributes of the section element. The title of the section is also included in its own tag to represent the structure of the source text. The introductory paragraph is included as a section with the title "intro". All metadata are in attributes - therefore when all the XML tags are stripped out, the original text remains, though with whitespace differences. Each section represents a chunk of text which talks about entities such as people, places, etc. The interesting entities are pulled out into elements at the start of each section, with a type attribute and a text attribute. The possible entity types are as follows: p Person pp People g Place gc Country d Date m Mythological mp Mythological Person mg Mythological Place b Biblical bp Biblical Person bg Biblical Place s Character sc Shakespeare Character t Topic (a theme occuring in the section) Page break markers are included to indicate page breaks in the original text. Quotations are delimited within the text. There are external quotation which often occur inline and look like this: Thus, Holinshed says: "he [Macbeth] slew the king at Enverns [Inverness], or (as some say) at Botgosuane, in the sixth year of his [Duncan's] reign." Quotations from Shakespeare look like this: What bloody man is that? He can report, As seemeth by his plight, of the revolt The newest state. The reference is parsed, and the quote's attributes are filled in where a value is available; otherwise attributes are generally omitted.
