Introduction. The Research Process
Time is of the essence. There is a vast array of published literature to be searched through and many questions to be thought about before you begin your literature search.
You will need to think how long it will take you to carry out your search.
Take into consideration the following:
- Have you used your library before? Are you confident in using the library?
- You may need to consult many sources, each source will be different.
- Most information may be available electronically now but this does not mean that the process is quicker.
- What if you don't find enough information on your topic?
You may need time to ask your tutor or a librarian for assistance.
- What if you find too much information?
You will need time to sort through the information found.
- If you've found too much or too little information, you might need to refine your search.
- Remember material may not be available immediately, you may have to acquire it from another library or purchase it from another source.
As a general guideline, double the time you think you'll need to carry out your search.
