Bibliographic databases.

There are many bibliographic databases available, which index different types of material, mostly periodical articles but sometimes also conference proceedings, chapters of books, reports, theses and patents. Such databases are usually subject themed, and will provide you with bibliographic descriptions of resources, such as the author and title of the item, where it was published, journal title, volume, part and page numbers. Many databases also provide you with abstracts of the material they describe, although they do not provide you with the full text of the article. You will be able to find references to material that you can search for within a library or through a full text electronic database, which might be provided online or by CD-ROM.

Bibliographic databases are also known as Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases, and are the best place to look for up-to-date, scholarly material.
