JISC MediaHub 2012/2013

EDINA undertook a user survey of JISC MediaHub between October 2012 and January 2013. A link to the survey was available from within the site; a popup window appeared after 3 minutes of starting to use the service for all users. The survey was not compulsory.

68 responses were received. A summary of the results is presented here:

Country of Study/Work

The majority of respondents came from the UK (90%), the remainder were from China, Europe, North America and South Africa.

Where do you study/work?

Uptake by role and discipline

Of the 68 respondents a significant proportion (53%) identified themselves as an "Information professional", the next biggest group were researchers (15%), followed by lecturers (11%) and students (10%). The 6 responses in the “other” group were members of the public who were searching the service for materials for personal research.

Users' roles

Survey respondents were able to select one or more disciplines; a total of 140 discipline types were selected with seven Information Professionals selecting all disciplines.

Users were asked for what purpose they used JISC MediaHub: 32% of respondents used the service for teaching materials, 28% for research and 16% for supporting staff and students.

61% of users found the service very easy or easy to use; 13% of users found the service difficult or very difficult to use.
