Q. What is Land Life Leisure?

A. EDINA Land Life Leisure is a bibliographic database of land-based literature whose focus is both practical and scholarly. Some of the subjects covered from over 750 journals include current practice and developments in temperate agriculture and all rural topics, alternative enterprises, conservation, equine enterprises, estate management, forestry, horticulture, organic husbandry, rural planning, recreation and tourism, and environmental issues. Land Life Leisure covers the popular trade press, in addition to indexing development reports and relevant articles from peer-reviewed journals; over 750 journals are included, from 1990 to the present, updated weekly. Land Life Leisure data is provided weekly by Harper Adams University College, Royal Agricultural College and Pershore College. Previously, content was supplied by Aberystwyth University with contributions from a number of colleges.

Q. How can I gain access to the Land Life Leisure database?

A. Land Life Leisure can be used not only by students and academic staff at institutions throughout the UK, but also by government organisations, quangos, environmental agencies, and commercial organisations. Subscription information for all institutions can be found on the website: http://edina.ac.uk/landlifeleisure/access/institutions.shtml. The subscription period runs from 1st August to 31 July.

Q. Is IP access available for subscribing institutions?

A. Yes - if you are on a computer within your institution’s IP range, and you do not see a ‘login by direct access’ option, your institution may not have IP-checked access enabled. Your local support staff should contact the EDINA Helpdesk with the institutional IP range to enable this access.

Q. Is trial access available?

A. Free 30-day trial access is available to potential subscribers. Please contact the EDINA Helpdesk to request a trial, putting 'Land Life Leisure trial' in the subject line of your message. Please ensure that your message contains your full contact details including your institution.

Q. I am from a subscribing academic institution. Who is my site representative?

A. For UK academic institutions, information on local site representatives for EDINA services can be found on our website, at the 'local site representative' link: http://edina.ac.uk/support/ Please be aware that you must be using a computer at your academic institution (within its recognised IP range) to use this facility.

Q. Does EDINA provide training and support materials?

Q. Are usage statistics available for Land Life Leisure?

A. Yes. Usage statistics can be obtained by the site representative or service support colleague within an academic institution. They can complete a web statistics registration by going to - usage statistics. Other subscribers should contact the EDINA helpdesk.

Data/Interface Use

Q. If I subscribe to Land Life Leisure, can we access full text via the interface?

A. Full text i.e. the articles rather than just the references is available for some of the content such as press releases. These are indicated by an additional 'full text' field appearing in the records. Where such links don’t exist it is possible to locate the actual articles by clicking on them and cutting and pasting them into the browser.

Q. I do not see the option to ‘output all’ from my search page, though I have seen this before. Why is this happening? I would like to email results.

A. If a search returns 100 or less records, you can use the 'output all' option and you do not need to mark any records before emailing.

Q. I have run searches before, how do I see just the new references?

A. It is possible to store searches and set up alerts. This is done by running and saving a search, then from that area going to 'Previous Sessions', marking AutoAlert and entering your email address.

Any matching records will then be sent to you by email each week. Additionally the latest records for each week covering all new topics are listed on the main search page as 'Current week'.
