JISC consultation on WellcomeFilm

JISC Collections is running a consultation with the community on a proposal to include WellcomeFilm (a collection of historical medical film material sourced from the world-famous Wellcome Library) in Film & Sound Online.

WellcomeFilm is a virtual collection of 100-plus hours of historical medical moving images and sound selected from the historical medical film collections of the Wellcome Library. The collection comprises a century (c.1900–2000) of medical, health and social care provision and practice in the UK. The material which has been identified for inclusion will interest people engaged in learning, teaching and research in science and bio-medicine as well as historical, social and media studies.

The scope of the collection is wide, encompassing an eclectic mix of genres across educational, instructional and public-awareness films made with very different audiences in mind, be it policy-makers, clinicians, GPs, medical students or the general public.

The inclusion of WellcomeFilm will cover many topics where, until now, there have been no moving image materials readily available. Film & Sound Online also permits a range of alternative search strategies which cross the subject disciplines and reflect how very versatile some of these materials can be.

The deadline for responses is 9 May 2007.
