Asian photo archive complements Film & Sound Online collection

A JISC project has launched an online photographic archive that complements the films available through the Digital Himalaya collection in Film & Sound Online.

The School of Oriental and Asian Studies (SOAS) archive of Professor Christoph von Fürer-Haimendorf (1909-1995) includes photographs, cine film and written materials. It reflects his 50 years of scholarship and is widely recognised as the world's most comprehensive study of tribal cultures in South Asia and the Himalayas.

The photographic collection consists of more than 20,000 images of which approximately half are now online for people to browse, download and use non-commercially free of charge.
