EDINA is currently undertaking a project funded by JISC to explore how OpenURL Router activity data could be made available as an aggregation on which services could be built for the good of the academic community.
The project started in November 2010 with an initial investigation into the institutional and legal issues relating to the holding and processing of IP addresses as potential personal data and the steps needed to develop a quality service within the bounds of the law.
Following a successful initial investigation with clear next steps, the project will now focus on developing an aggregation based on anonymised activity data from the OpenURL Router and, if possible, an institution’s OpenURL resolver data, that other projects may use.
A prototype recommender will be built to demonstrate exploitation of the aggregated OpenURL data by the end of July 2011.
