About e-MapScholar: phase 2

e-MapScholar2, a JISC funded project, follows the e-MapScholar project, which aimed to develop tools and learning and teaching materials to enhance and support the use of geo-spatial data currently available within tertiary education in learning and teaching, including digital map data available from the EDINA Digimap service.

The e-MapScholar2 team aim to assess the need for, and long-term viability of, one or more services for learning and teaching, based on the products developed in the e-MapScholar phase 1 project. These products offer online interactive resources for learning, managed online and customisable by teaching staff, and draw on geo-spatial data and, potentially, other forms of data in real time.

e-MapScholar2 will assess:

  • The role of the e-MapScholar service or services in the developing JISC Information Environment and e-learning architecture

  • The contexts of use for these services

  • Their potential impact on learning and teaching

  • The market need and demand for these services

  • The usability of the content management system

A proposal to JISC will outline models for delivery of the products to the community, including funding, cost recovery and service delivery. No new content or software tools will be developed under e-MapScholar2.
