Learning outcomes:

• Students will gain an understanding of the principles of digital mapping
• They will be able to make an informed selection of the correct OS product to use for a particular task
• They will learn to integrate data from non-digital sources into a digital mapping environment
• They will learn simple techniques of spatial analysis

Other data sources used: Information about UK archaeological sites extracted from County Sites and Monuments Records

Ordnance Survey datasets: Land-Line.Plus®, Meridian™2, Strategi®, 1:50 000 Colour Raster data

Software: ArcView, Microsft Word (or another text editor)

Viewers/plug-ins required: None

Other requirements: Specific OS tiles will be required to match the areas covered by the archaeological data, but data from other areas could be substituted.

Other materials: Mainly my own hand-outs, but obviously the Digimap web site will be used, and the Ordnance Survey web pages.

Support: Technical support from IT Service (maintenance of software on the networked PC service, facilities for hardcopy etc.).
