This project will take place over three
weeks. Students must work in groups of three.
The aim is to build a digital 3-D geology
map of the Lake District using ArcGIS
The three milestones that students should
aim to meet are:-
End of Week 1: A working Digital Terrain Model (DTM) of the
Lake District with a geographic base in ArcGIS.
End of Week 2: Added geology and either geophysical or geochemical
data to your model and be able to view it in 3-D.
End of Week 3: An analysis of
the geology of the Lake District and how the various geological elements
relate to the topography and to each other.
During the sessions students will be given
advice on:-
1. A strategy to follow
2. How to visualise data in ArcGIS
3. How to produce and view a 3-D model
4. How to integrate different types of information in their model
5. Interpreting the geological structure from the digital model
6. How to present the work for the assessment
