Context/pedagogy Subject area: Geology LTSN Subject Centre: Geography, Earth and Environmental Science, (GEES) University of Plymouth, http://www.gees.ac.uk [opens in a new window] Applicability to other subject areas: Any subject that requires students to visualise in 3-D. Ease of transferability of ideas to other subject areas: Basic design of classroom activity would transfer easily. Level: Aimed at entry level students Participants: 65 students, 4 tutors Independent study/group work: The materials will be for use in class teaching. Study mode: Full-time Pedagogical approach: It supports experiential learning. Teaching methods: Short lecture, mostly-hands-on practical/workshop Typical learning time: 6-8hours Prior knowledge required: They will have been introduced to GIS software previously. Other background material will have been encountered in the early parts of the course. Assessment: The students will submit a GIS-project containing the 3-D model they have developed along with answers to problems/tasks they will have been asked to complete. The marking criteria template is available in excel format. Evaluation: The material will be evaluated by a questionnaire following submission of assessment. Staff will be asked to provide their own assessment of the exercise. Prior experience: New material will
be generated for this exercise, however, some will be based on previously
used paper-based material. |
