Aims and Objectives

To build a national union catalogue of serials held in UK research libraries that will:

  • be the key online tool for researchers to locate serials throughout the UK
  • provide librarians with a central source of high-quality bibliographic records for upgrading local catalogues
  • subsidiary purpose: to raise consciousness of the importance of quality serials information among UK researchers and librarians

Data

The SUNCAT database will consist of high-quality bibliographic records in MARC21 format. Data will be sources from CONSER, the ISSN Register, and the catalogues of research libraries throughout the UK.

SUNCAT bibliographic quality will be specified by the SUNCAT Bibliographic Quality Advisory Group which consists of, among others, senior practitioners from five leading UK research and copyright deposit libraries.
